If getting $2 per square foot wasn’t quite incentive enough to replace your real lawn with an artificial lawn, good news. The LADWP has raised the rebate by a buck!
Through its California Friendly “Cash In Your Lawn” program, LADWP residential customers can now get $3 for every square foot of real grass you replace with artificial turf and/or drought-tolerant plants.
The drought. It’s not going anywhere any time soon. So we all must do more to conserve water where we can and the LADWP wants to help.
Currently, we use half of our drinking water for outdoor maintenance – a very bad habit that needs to change in light of the continuing drought in California.
Since the introduction of the California Friendly program in 2009, Los Angeles residents have already replaced 8 million square feet of real grass with more drought-tolerant landscaping, which has saved 250 million gallons of water.
To help conserve water (and earn cash back) with the rebate:
1) Pre-apply through the LADWP. You need pre-approval before you start the project, which involves a visit from a LADWP representative to see your lawn before the project begins (and likely after its completion).
2) Get your lush, green lawn right back with the artificial variety. In fact, Turf Now!™ Los Angeles artificial lawn looks and feels even better than the real thing.
3) Explore all your options for drought-tolerant plants. Succulents of all kinds make for great plants for this region, as do sage, lavender, sedum, dymondia, ceanothus, and cotoneaster.
The offer is good for replacement of up to 2,000 square feet of lawn, with a maximum payout of $6,000.
